In July 2016, May Group attended the first ever Chungmuro International Music Film Festival (CHIMFF ) in Seoul. Great and very creative opening show, good energy, funny hosts. Just an amazing show. The whole festival lasted 5 days and was exclusively for musical film.
Some very impressive performances had been prepared during the opening ceremony and the energy was absolutely in top.
During the festival there were daily screening of musical films from all over the world and some occasional performances. Perhaps the most spectacular and impressive performance was a “Live Dubbing Show” which was performed to perfection by a very skillful team of voice actors and a foley artist. See more about this show and the trailer on our Facebook Page.
Though there were many foreign films present, only a handful of non-Korean visitors showed their presence at the event. That being said, all films (with few exceptions) featured English subtitles and there were both Korean and English speakers during the opening and closing ceremonies. Since it was a first-time event and with the seeming success of the festival it is very likely to become more internationally acknowledged next year.
Musical films seem underappreciated -so much skill goes into making musical films, so it was a pleasure to see this niche get so much attention. The concept of having a festival purely for musical films is very intriguing and it may be something to look out for in the future.
