Ballet of Two Dancers

Storyline

De Gui’s wife came from North China with her husband to a village in Anhui Province. Here she was just known as “De Gui’s wife”, which was tradition in the area. When De Gui’s wife was in her 30’s and still unable to bear a child, her friend, Jin Mei, persuaded her to adopt a daughter, Xianxian. Unexpectedly, De Gui falls to his death in an accident and the locals blame his untimely death on Xianxian, believing she is possessed. De Gui’s wife insists that the child is innocent and keeps her. De Gui’s wife would like nothing more than to learn to dance ballet, but she spends most of her effort on raising Xianxian.
